Summer Wedding Destinations

From blue waves and white beaches to cool breezes; who can resist the allure of the ocean when August rolls around with its triple digit days. It's really no wonder why some summertime brides flock to the coast to exchange vows leaving the steamy metroplex behind. There are definite pros and cons to this approach, and we will do our best to lay them out for you to review.

KEEP IT SIMPLE: The primary benefit of a destination wedding is a ceremony, reception, and honeymoon in one. Many resorts provide an all-inclusive experience that is priced by package, however, your cake, flowers, and decor all originate from stock options and themes. This makes for a simple planning process on your part: just click and pick, but it also limits your choices. Most professional planners, like TWE, can customize your event regardless of the location. Employing a planner also streamlines the responsibility of your big day to one source, which minimizes multiple points of contact and lessens the likelihood of information being lost in translation.

Tip: If you are planning your destination wedding solo, try to stay at a well-known hotel or resort. In case anything goes wrong, you can hold a corporate office accountable. Also, you don't want to put a deposit down on a place that goes out of business three months before your ceremony.

Tip: Request blocked off rooms and inclusive benefits for your wedding party and guests at a discounted rate. If children will be in tow, make sure your resort is family friendly.

KEEP IT SMALL: The number one reason why local weddings are more common than exotic ones is family. Not everyone you love will be able to attend a soiree in Playa del Carmen, whether it's due to finances, age, or inconvenience. For example, grandparents and guests with small children will have a hard time flying, and less affluent guests may not be able to cover airfare and a two or three night hotel stay. If this sounds like your situation, allow for unexpected airfare contributions within your budget or plan an intimate affair on the beach and a lavish reception back home by Tami Winn Events.

KEEP A CHECKLIST:

Every bride should have a checklist, but yours is even more important. Make sure you arrive at your destination armed with all of the necessary paperwork required for uniting in your chosen country. The resort you book with should provide these details for you, but just in case, do the homework yourself. Or even better, have us do it for you!

Tip: Remember, passports take months to process, and six to eight weeks if they're rushed.

Tip: Go to your destination's government website and look up non-resident wedding license requirements.

SANDALS RESORTS

Sandals Resorts offer 15 locations in the Caribbean and five pre-designed themes to choose from. You can also customize your options with TWE. For attendees with children, they recommend Beaches Resorts, also owned by Sandals.

 SANDESTIN HILTON

Located in Northwest Florida, Destin is one of America's most beautiful beaches. The Hilton at Sandestin is just as delicious as its Caribbean competition, and bonus, it's right here in the US.

HILTON KEY LARGO
Also located in the US, Key Largo, and all of the Florida Keys for that matter, are exotic gems located just south of Miami. The Hilton at Key Largo is a popular resort for couples wanting a Caribbean experience without a lengthy commute.

CASA MARINA
A WALDORF ASTORIA RESORT

In spectacular Waldorf Astoria style, this beauty is a classic, latin-influenced structure with pristine views overlooking the crystal clear waters surrounding Key West. We are in love just looking at it!
